2017 was not a great year for the planet. One of the hottest years ever recorded, it will also go down as the year that the issue of waste was placed firmly front and centre of our global consciousness. From the local TV show War on Waste to our screens being inundated by devastating footage of miles of plastic and other human caused rubbish floating in our oceans, the damage can no longer be ignored.

With the new year upon us, it’s a great time to clear out the wardrobe, donate the stuff that you doesn’t fit anymore or that you have just got sick of, to charities. Before you rush out to the end of year sales and just buy a heap of new cheap stuff on impulse, look critically at what items you need to complement what you already have that you love to wear.
Walking this week through the big chains like Zara, Uniqlo and H&M, it’s easy to become entranced by the bright colours, discounted price tags beckoning you to buy that colourful dress, those embroidered shoes. Because you just….NEED them. Let’s face it, fast fashion is very much like junk food – it’s cheap and addictive but also bad for you let alone the environment.
