Business Profile:

Located at the Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability in Waverton, the licensed Coal Loader Café is practicing what the centre preaches. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 7am to 3pm, the café, situated 8 minutes’ walk from the train station, serves breakfast, brunch and lunch. The business owners live and breathe sustainability and were the perfect match to operate this much needed Café at the centre. Visit the centre, take a walk or just enjoy the views and finish with a yummy and sustainable coffee and some lunch.

Achievements:

Recently installed solar panels on the roof of the café, waiting for them to be connected.
Signed up as a Vision Friendly business, and now offering their menu in large print and braille format, for vision-impaired customers. In partnership with BBP and Ability Links.
Café is also wheelchair accessible and Coal Loader centre/platform has an accessible lift and accessible bathrooms.
Use biodegradable takeaway coffee cups and offer a discount to customers who bring their own reusable cups
Order local produce as much as possible, all their produce and drinks are from Australia and try to source as much as they can in Sydney; Some of their produce comes from the Community Gardens next door
Customers are encouraged to bring their home-grown produce to be used in the café in exchange for a free coffee
Located in Council’s Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability and actively shares and promotes its values and events
Host and promote local artists and exhibitions
Promotes sustainability with signage and by starting conversations
Energy and water efficient equipment sourced and organise regular maintenance
Have a Social Coordinator who organises team catch-ups for the staff
Employees receive complimentary food and coffee when they are working
