The Quadrangle – A Better Village

10 December 2013

The Quadrangle Village shopping centre located in Castlecrag has become the first ‘BetterVillage’ on the North Shore – a special recognition awarded from the Better Business Partnership (BBP) for the outstanding energy saving initiatives implemented by Centre Management and the centre’s 16 shops.

Improvements to the centre include the installation of a 10kW solar power system on the centre’s roof that provides power for car park lighting.

More than 190 lights in the car park and hundreds of halogen lights in the shops have also been upgraded to the latest in energy efficient technology.

It is estimated these initiatives will save 35 tonnes of CO2 per annum.

Individual businesses within the centre have become involved in this project by becoming members of the Better Business Partnership. Each business will display an accreditation sticker that allows shoppers to see how the business is supporting the community and reducing their impact on the environment.

Local business, ‘Easy Being Green’ was selected through a competitive process by the Quadrangle Village to manage the installation of the solar power system and energy efficient lighting.

“As a local resident I am very proud that Easy Being Green was selected to be involved in this project,” said Easy Being Green’s Managing Director, Andrew Randall.

“I congratulate the centre management and shop keepers for working together towards sustainability, I encourage shoppers to support their efforts by shopping local,” said Willoughby Mayor, Pat Reilly.
